This CD has been a long journey. I started this project in late 2012 and due to musician schedules and other obstacles, it’s taken three years to complete.
The music presented here is what inspired me in my youth – hard swinging, fiery big band jazz. From my first introduction to jazz in junior high school, I knew this is what I wanted to do. Like many young musicians, I quickly became enamored with the big bands of the ‘70’s; Maynard Ferguson, Buddy Rich, Count Basie, Thad Jones, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Duke Ellington, Louie Bellson, Don Ellis and countless other local bands. Although these bands share the same basic instrumentation, they had their own unique sound due to the composers and musicians. One of the most exciting characteristics of the big band idiom is its versatility. Big bands can cover Latin, swing, funk, ballads, rock, and classical in nature: what other format can claim that? Big band jazz is, and will always be, my first love. My career has taken me on a journey involving many styles of music, most of which I truly enjoy playing; however, the music on this CD takes me “full circle” back to my roots.
From executive producer Gary Grant:
Full Circle is the third Wayne Bergeron CD that I have co-produced, and I must say, Wayne’s best effort to date. Wayne’s growth has exploded over the past ten years in every aspect. While Wayne characteristically hoists huge upper register notes, his lower register sound is just as big and sensitive. Wayne’s musicianship, jazz playing, harmonic creativity, and musical expression make him a natural phenomenon. It’s been a joy to be associated with this epic CD.
