IT'S A WONDERFUL WORLD
We decided to name this recording, “It’s A Wonderful World” because my wife, Linda, suggested that it represents my outlook on life. I do enjoy my life to the fullest, and appreciate daily the fact that I get to make my living doing what I love most – playing music with gifted musicians and working with other sensitive, intelligent people.
Another title I considered was “First Take,” because that’s what this album is. It was recorded live and on-air at the studios of WUCF-FM (89.9), a radio station located at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. WUCF is a 24-hour-a-day jazz station and does much to support local musicians and keep jazz alive in our community.
This was not intended to be an album. We just got together and had fun playing these great tunes. You will hear the songs in the exact order in which they were performed on the radio show. We met in the studio at 2 p.m. on August 14, 2006, where we discussed the tunes and ran over a few technical matters (mostly intros and endings) while engineer John Marsden adjusted recording levels for the instruments. We went on the air live from 4 to 5 p.m. and this recording is the result.
Thanks to Michael Kramer, Ben Kramer, and Greg Parnell for making the entire performance extremely satisfying. Thanks also to station director Kayonne Riley and her staff of supportive on-air personalities: Jack Simpson, John Seger, Alan Rock, David Martin, E. Kenneth Jenkins, and Dr. K (Ken Rabac).
